Is Email Marketing Still Relevant?

With the boom of social media and a shift in organisation trends to invest more time & money there, is email marketing still an effective strategy today?

Generating leads with email marketing seems to be the least attractive approach of all the marketing means - however, when it comes to customer acquisition, an interesting study found that email marketing is nearly 40 times more effective than Twitter and Facebook combined (McKinsey & Company).

So why are people wondering if email marketing is still relevant today?

Millennials. Gen Z.

As the current generation has their undivided attention surrounding social media and tech platforms growing up, communication via uninteresting emails seems to be a thing of the past, and only used as a form of communication when connecting with the older generation.

Email marketing works for a variety of reasons. Sending targeted emails to potential leads is still an effective strategy, if not more, even in today's context. Ultimately, emails are still being utilized every single day in a professional setting.

Introducing MailChimp.
Creating and sending out email campaigns don't have to be boring or tough.

Founded back in 2001 by internet entrepreneurs Ben Chestnut and Mark Armstrong, MailChimp started off as an email marketing service to help their customers back when they were running a web design business. It was only in 2007 when they decided to go all-in on MailChimp. Today it's the leading email marketing software, and they have expanded into being an all-in-one marketing automation platform.

Back to emails.

What if you could design a newsletter to promote your new product or create an entire landing page as a call-to-action (CTA) to link potential leads for data collection - all for free and without needing to write a single line of code?

MailChimp offers a vast variety of functions for users to create their marketing collaterals to integrate together with their email campaign blast.

Need a page to obtain user's data such as email addresses? Create and draft a landing page by simply picking a template and design it how you want it to be.

Starting off, users will be able to access several pre-loaded template inspirations to work with. Whether you're creating an email blast or landing page to make an announcement of an upcoming event, or a promotional newsletter to advertise a product/service, things just got made a lot easier.

Relieve your designers block with the featured themes to select from.

From there, utilize the drag and drop design editor to create a page/email campaign of your branding and product.

Voila, you've got a page that looks like it was paid to be created! Oh did I mention that I haven't paid a single cent yet?

MailChimp offers automation and scheduling of campaigns and email blasts for businesses to keep up with their audience list and contacts. Simply create an email campaign and schedule it for when new users sign up for your newsletter or when it's their birthday.

Personalized emails are also supported on the platform, simply by adding merge tags. Essentially, they are present to help MailChimp identify how to address the contact or subscriber you're sending the blast out to, just by adding the *|FNAME| * and *|LNAME| * tags, which represents first and last name. MC will then take the names of your contacts and personalize the email to whoever you are sending it too. Interesting.

"In 2019, global email users amounted to 3.9 billion users (Statista, 2020)."

I hope that this will help open up avenues for you to explore email marketing as an effective and accessible channel to market your services or products!

There are a ton of email marketing benefits, but from a business point-of-view, remember that for every $1 you spend on email marketing, you can expect an average return of $42 (DMA, 2019).
